Hello, we are Jim and Dom from New York! Thank you for choosing to hear our story and learn more about us as prospective parents.

We met one memorable evening, at a work holiday party in 2012. We easily fell into conversation about different cultures, pen-pals, movies, and anything else you can imagine. Jim is my rock and my rock star. He is my stable support, someone who I can always lean on. Jim is creative and values self-expression and communication as is reflected in his passion for music, writing, and film. During college, he was the lead guitarist in an indie rock band. Although that did not lead to a career, he remained connected to music. Being with Dom brightens every aspect of my life. His disarming, 100-watt smile instantly puts everyone at ease. He has a sunny disposition and a warm personality. Dom fills my life with color both literally and figuratively.

Dom moved to the U.S. from the Philippines in 2005 to pursue his doctorate in chemistry and chemical biology. He currently works as a biomedical scientist doing advanced research, which involves carefully planning experiments and high-level analysis. We live in a family-friendly and diverse neighborhood in New York City. Underneath the hustle and bustle of this metropolis is a steady beating heart offering some of the world’s best museums, theater, and sports entertainment.

Our home is in a large apartment building overlooking a river promenade dotted with small parks and playgrounds. Our building has a private courtyard, indoor play areas, and a solarium. We live close to work, and daycare and schools are within a 10-minute walk. Our flexible work schedules allow us to come home at a moment’s notice.

Our families have always been supportive of our relationship and plans for adoption. They cannot wait to meet the new addition to the clan! Jim’s family absorbs everyone they meet like a sponge. From foster kids, exchange students, kids from the inner city, and even close friends, everyone is considered part of the family. With parents hailing from two different islands, Dom’s family is multi-ethnic and multi-lingual. They are hospitable and welcoming of everyone.

We like exploring cultures through travel, film, food, and books. More importantly, we find that our interests are enriched when we share them with family and friends.

With his passion for cooking, Dom is always looking for ways to marry Filipino cuisine with that of other cultures thereby bringing new flavors into our family’s homes. During autumn and winter, Dom whips up a big pot of squash soup with coconut milk and ginger called ginataang kalabasa, which everyone devours.
